Townsend Methodist Church Yard Sale: Townsend United Methodist Church’s annual indoor Yard Sale a two-day event on Friday, June 19, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and Saturday June 20, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. It will be held rain or shine. The church is located at 265 Main St., at the corner of Routes 13 and 119, in Townsend Center — “The Meetinghouse on the Hill.” There will be a wide selection of items from which to choose.

Free shredding: The Friends of Groton Elders are again sponsoring a FREE shredding event from 9 a.m. until noon at the New Life Community Church parking lot (formerly Sacred Heart Church), Main Street, Groton. Gather old bank statements, tax paperwork, etc. and see them shredded. Everyone welcome!!!
Strawberry Festival: The annual Trinity Chapel Strawberry Festival will be held at 161 Center Road in Shirley, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Rain date is Sunday, June 21, from noon to 3 p.m. Strawberry Shortcake will be featured, along with hot-dogs, hamburgers and baked goods and live music during the lunch period.
Free day at Fruitlands Museum: 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., 102 Prospect Hill Road, Harvard. Live music at 1 and 2:30; Animal Adventures at 11 a.m. (limited seating); plus crafts, historic games, Atlatl throwing contest, large community art project, self-guided trail walls plus nature scavenger hunt and free cake and snacks, while they last. Come and celebrate the completion of our centennial year!

Father’s Day fishing derby: The Ayer Sportman’s Club will host a Father’s Day fishing derby Sunday, June 21, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Adults $14; kids 10 and under, $6. Open to the public. No license required. Three-fish limit per pole. Free lunch for Dads! The club is located at 255 Snake Hill Road, Ayer, 978-772-9748.
Clambake and chicken barbecue: Townsend VFW Post 6538, its Ladies Auxiliary and Men’s Auxiliary will hold their annual clambake and chicken barbecue at the 491 Main St. VFW from noon until the food s sold out. Barbecued chicken dinners complete with potato salad, corn-on-the-cob, cranberry sauce and roll with butter; boiled lobsters with drawn butter, potato salad, corn-on-the-cob and roll with butter; steamed clams with broth and drawn butter; and clam chowder will be available at market prices. The public is invited to attend but arrive close to noon to ensure that your favorite food will still be available!
Father’s Day concert at The Healing Garden: The Virginia Thurston Healing Garden announces the next “Concert at the Garden” at 3 p.m. The Saturdays, a musical group that blends folk, bluegrass, rock and the blues, will be playing original arrangements of contemporary and traditional favorites. The Healing Garden is located at 145 Bolton Road in Harvard. Admission is $10 for Garden members, $15 for nonmembers. All proceeds benefit the services of the Healing Garden. Wine-tasting and Pairing for PACH: Bailey’s Bar & Grille in Townsend will be hosting a Wine-tasting and Pairing to benefit the PACH Outreach Building Fund from 6-8 p.m. Evening of fine wine and appetizers. Local nonprofits providing food and refreshments for sale beginning at 6 p.m. Music begins at 6:30 p.m. Concert is held rain or shine. In the event of rain, the concert will take place in the Meeting House.

Bare Hill Triathlon: The Harvard Lions Club’s third annual Bare Hill Triathlon will begin at 8 a.m. with a .5 mile swim, 10.5 mile bike and 3.2 mile run. The staging and transition areas and finish line will be on the grounds of the Harvard Library. Individual registration is $70 and teams $80; since this is an official USA Triathlon-sanctioned event, there is also a $12 USAT fee for all entrants.
