PEPPERELL — Tuesdays and Thursdays are busy days at the PACH office in the old Peter Fitzpatrick School on Main Street.

Volunteers greet and assist a steady stream of clients who stop in to pick up their pantry items; they clean, sort and pack food; and they help clients with fuel assistance applications and resource referrals.

They say many hands make for light work and a bit of fun, but ask any of the volunteers, and they will also tell you about the incomparable joy they experience when serving others.

PACH has volunteer opportunities for those who can offer a couple of hours a week, a few hours a month, or a more substantial weekly commitment to helping our neighbors in need. Orientation and training are provided for all volunteers who can help in the following areas:

Trucks and manpower needed to pick up food from Devens and deliver to Pepperell on the second Tuesday of the month from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., three hours per month.

Shopper to travel to the Merrimack Valley Food Bank in Lowell once a week on Thursday morning at 10 a.m. to shop for food and deliver to PACH, three hours per week.

Office coordinator to lead weekly office operations, working closely with the Board of Directors, office volunteers, pantry coordinator and the USDA/Greater Boston Food Bank coordinator. This person is responsible for gathering data and submitting monthly reports to our partner agencies and Board of Directors. Weekly commitment of 10-12 hours.

Fundraising committee members to plan, organize and manage at least two fundraising events a year. This is a great opportunity for creative thinkers and organizational experts.

Pantry coordinator to lead weekly pantry operations, working closely with the office and pantry volunteers, the pantry buyer, the food drive coordinators and the USDA/Boston Food Bank coordinator. This person ensures that sufficient food and pantry staff are available to meet client needs each week, six to eight hours per week.

Food drive coordinator serves as a liaison between PACH Outreach and the local schools, churches, businesses and community organizations, which regularly hold food drives to stock our pantry.
