Update information for Student Directory by Oct. 10

The PTO is assembling information for this year’s PTO Student Directory. All families are requested to make any necessary updates to your contact information through Edline online registration by Friday, Oct. 10. While the question as to whether your information can be included in the Directory is on the emergency response card(s) that you should have returned to the school(s), the contact information printed in the Directory is your registration information on Edline, not the contact information filled in on the emergency response cards nor the contact information filled in on PTO membership forms. Please be certain that any changes in e-mail address, telephone number, and/or street address are updated through Edline. If you do not have an Edline account, please contact the respective school Front Office for your child(ren)’s grade(s).

PLEASE NOTE: Any families who have more than one household and would like contact information for both households included in the Directory, please send your request directly to Nancy Lancellotti at alancellot@aol.com.

Harvard Cultural Council grants available

The Harvard Cultural Council’s purpose is to promote and support the vitality of the cultural resources within the Harvard community, through the Massachusetts Cultural Council’s Local Cultural Council (LCC) grant program, which is a reimbursement type grant. A wide variety of activities considered for funding include community gatherings such as concerts, plays and festivals; arts, science and environmental education in the schools and at the public library; projects focusing on local history and diversity, restoration and preservation. New applicants are encouraged to apply! Applications available at the Harvard Public Library or http://www.massculturalcouncil.org/applications/lccapp.asp.

All applications must be postmarked by Oct. 15 (send to: HCC, 13 Ayer Road, Harvard, MA 01451). Applications from organizations and individuals based in Harvard and surrounding towns are given priority. For more information visit http://www.harvard.ma.us/Pages/HarvardMA_BComm/Cultural/index. Littleton Bromfield Middle School hockey open

Littleton Bromfield Middle School Hockey registration is now open. They are attempting to field teams at the following levels, sixth, seventh, eighth, and a sixth to eighth Girls team. Information on the leagues and registration process can be found at http://LittletonBromfieldHockey.org/.

If interested in playing this year please register by Oct. 31.

The teams are open to families and players residing in the towns of Littleton and Harvard and school of choice families and players in these same towns. Players outside of this will be considered based on open roster spots and BOD approval.

Participants must have a current USA Hockey Membership number to participate. This is games-only format played in quality leagues in the area. This is not a learn-to-skate or learn-to-play-hockey program. The game is fast and often physical at this level. It is expected participants have experience in organized hockey.

Box Tops update: Over 4,000 collected!

The Harvard PTO and Box Tops for Education Program coordinators would like to thank you for collecting and submitting your Box Tops to one of the three collections sites (Bromfield School Office, Hildreth Elementary School lobby, Harvard Public Library lobby).

Each Box Top is worth 10 cents, and with your help over 4,000 have been collected since the school year began! This is over $400 for our schools so far. Our fall collection deadline of Oct. 15 is approaching, so please keep sending them in. Coordinators regularly pick them up at collection sites, so you do not need to wait until the deadline to send them in.

Some reminders:

* Our schools do not participate in the “Labels for Education” program, only Box Tops are accepted.

* Please make sure product code and expiration date are present. Expired Box Tops are not valid.

* Neatly trimming Box Tops is not necessary but the gesture is always appreciated.

— Jennifer Brittain and Jessica Barragué, Harvard PTO Box Top coordinators

PTO membership sign-up underway

We now have over 110 members signed up for the PTO. Can we get to 150 by next week? The Harvard PTO brings parents, teachers, administrators, and community members together to share ideas and build friendships. We raise funds to support programs, services and purchase materials for both HES and Bromfield that are not otherwise provided for by the school budget.

Through our support we help to fund curriculum events such as Art Quest and Starlab, teacher appreciation events, the Parent/Teacher conference scheduling system, HES Field Day, Bromfield science awards, math materials at HES and much more.

And membership provides you with the Student Directory — a highly useful listing of school contacts as well as our incredibly supportive business partners!

Sign up for the PTO via the web at: https://sites.google.com/site/harvardpto or drop off your membership form at the HES and Bromfield school offices.

Stretch those PTO memberships even farther with your company’s Corporate Matching Program. Contacting your company to find out if your employer has a matching gift program can double or even triple your contribution to the Harvard PTO.
