TOWNSEND — For the safety of our playground attendees, it is necessary that the town purchases playground-safe bark mulch to make the landing zones at the appropriate levels.

The playground was a gift from Mr. Stone (Sterilite) in 2000. Since then, the Parks and Cemetery Department has mowed the grass, however, no additional funding was ever designated for the yearly upkeep.

Fundraising over the years has yielded additional equipment and bark mulch, however, at this time that account only has $300. The cost of the mulch needed is almost $700. Your contribution to this fund would help a great deal.

Your check can be written to the Town of Townsend (notation: Playground Fund) and mailed to Town of Townsend Parks and Cemetery Department, 272 Main St., Townsend, MA, 01469.

Any additional funds received will be used to buy paint for the pavilion, buy three additional picnic tables, pay the water bill and help fund additional equipment.
