Ninety Years of Jazz with Steve Tanimoto July 26 at 7 p.m.
Many of the best known jazz standard songs made their debut 90 years ago.
“Tea For Two,” recorded by the Benson Orchestra of Chicago, made the pop charts in 1924. That same year saw the release of Gershwin’s “Somebody Loves Me” and “The Man I Love.” Six years later, “Body and Soul” arrived in the U.S. from London and became the single most recorded jazz standard.
In this concert, pianist Steve Tanimoto will offer jazz piano interpretations of songs not only from the roaring twenties but from each decade since then, up into the 1960s.
