GROTON — The Groton Public Library is offering a Summer Reading Program for adults this year. After all, why should kids have all the fun?

Adults like to read and earn prizes, too! And thanks to the generosity of the Groton Public Library Endowment Trust, we are offering some great prizes for this program.

The First Grand Prize is $250 to Gibbet Hill. The Second Grand Prize is a 3-piece steel bistro set donated by Moison Ace Hardware. The Third Grand Prize will be a basket from the Groton Nursery & Garden Center. The Prize for Most Participation will be $50 to Gibbet Hill, donated by Gibbet Hill, and a “Literary Elements” tote bag. Weekly raffle prizes will be $50 gift certificates to local businesses.

Those who are interested can sign up online at gpl.org or at the Library starting today (June 19). Participants must be at least 18 years old and have a Library card.

There are three main ways to earn raffle tickets for the weekly and grand prizes: By signing up, by reading books and by playing Library BINGO. Library BINGO activities require players to either use Library services, like Zinio Digital Magazines or Ancestry, or read a certain format, like a poem or essay. The BINGO activities are designed so they can be done in the Library or from home, so that everyone can participate. Raffle tickets are earned for each BINGO row completed and each card completed.

There is also the Summer Reader’s Challenge: If a participant reads nine books in nine weeks, he or she will win a $5 gift card to Dunkin Donuts and a Certificate of Reading Achievement. All winners will be posted in the Library and on our Facebook page.

The theme this year is both literary and science-based: “Literary Elements,” artwork and resources provided by Massachusetts Library System, Boston Bruins and Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners. The program runs through Friday, Aug. 22. Please join us!
