Local students earn academic honors at Lawrence Academy

PUBLISHED: | UPDATED:

GROTON — At Cum Laude Day ceremonies during the final term of the school year at Lawrence Academy, local students were recognized for academic excellence.

Juniors Heather Downing, of Harvard, and Oren Karp, of Pepperell, were inducted into the school’s chapter of the Cum Laude Society. With academic achievement as its main criterion, the national Cum Laude Society requires that its members have also demonstrated good character, honor and integrity in all aspects of their school life. Oren was also presented with The Rensselaer Mathematics and Science Award.

Three Groton students were prize recipients during the ceremonies. Freshman Nate Diedrich earned The Freshman Book Prize in English for Writing; junior Jeremy Ricard was chosen by the student government to receive the Class of 1957 Award for outstanding citizenship; and senior Calli Scofidio received The Class of 1965 Prize for Music.
