SHIRLEY — Twenty-five years ago, these Shirley families (pictured above) were raising money to build the Mystical Maze Playground on the town property at Benjamin Hill.
Among those pictured are Chip Guercio, Heidi Conley, Lowell, Charlene, and young Buddy Shorey, plus the sign painter — Sandy Farnsworth. There are also some others whose names we do not know.
On Friday, July 11, at 6 p.m., the Shirley Historical Society will be celebrating the anniversary of the Mystical Maze and everyone is invited. The event will take place at the Benjamin Hill Recreation Area and is co-sponsored with the Benjamin Hill Committee and some members of the original Mystical Maze Committee.
Shirley Historical Society members will bring hot dogs and paper goods to share and hope that other folks will bring side dishes, desserts and beverages to share.
For the program, there will be a slideshow illustrating the history of the construction and we will dig up the time capsule. There will also be a display of information on the Benjamin Hill Ski Area. The pool will be open until 8 p.m., free of charge, for program participants.
