The Groton Cultural Council wants the people who live and work in the Groton community to help advise the council on how best to allocate public dollars for programs and activities in the arts, humanities and interpretive sciences.

The all-volunteer, municipally appointed council receives an annual allocation of approximately $4,000 to fund projects by individuals, organizations and schools that serve a broad range of interests and needs.

Because these are public dollars, it is essential to gather local public opinion and learn more about what is happening in our community and what the community needs. This will help develop useful criteria and funding priorities to guide the grant-making decisions.

All interested community members are invited to participate in a one-hour discussion on Thursday, July 10, in the Community Room at the Groton Public Library at 7 p.m.

The council seeks feedback about:

* What current programs and activities — in the arts, humanities and interpretive sciences — are important to support or maintain?

* What cultural activities might be missing from our community?

* What community issues might be helped by arts and cultural programming?

* How have you, your organization, your kids and/or the community been affected by council grants?

We’d be grateful for your help and hope you can join us. You can RSVP to liliott@juno.com. Please contact any of the Council members for more information.

Current members are: Frank Conahan, Pat Hartvigsen, Monica Hinojos, Gretchen Hummon, Mary Athey Jennings, Dina Mordeno, Lili Ott, Joni Parker-Roach, Susan Randazzo Schulman and Ann Wilson.
