The Townsend United Methodist Church will host the lawn party at the Townsend Military Band’s Thursday evening, July 10, concert on the Townsend Common. Church members will be selling hamburgers, cheeseburgers, hot dogs and sausages with peppers and onions to hungry concertgoers from 6:30 to 9:15 p.m. Homemade baked beans, potato salad and fresh fruit cups will be available along with cold soda and bottled water. A variety of home baked goods may be purchased at the lawn party as well.
Children attending the concert may play in the bouncy house and win prizes by playing the various games set up on the Common that evening for their enjoyment.
The Townsend Military Band will open its program at 7:30 p.m. by playing the “Valdres” march by Hanssen and “Nimrod by Elgar. The “Polka From Schwanda” by Weinberger and Morrissey’s “Caribbean Fantasy” will be performed.
Former Hawthorne Brook Middle School Band Director Kevin Arsenault will conduct the band in the playing of “Aire and Toccata for Band” by Erickson during the first portion of the concert.
Rossini’s “Italian Girl in Algiers” overture and “Porgy and Bess” by Gershwin will be played prior to intermission.
The Townsend Band will open the second portion of its concert by playing Bilik’s “Block M” march and the “Kurt Weill Songs” arranged by Yoder. “Great Themes from Italian Movies” arranged by Cacavas, Hanson’s “Romantic Theme” and “America the Beautiful” will be performed before the band concludes its concert at 9:30 p.m. by playing the “Star Spangled Banner.”
