AYER — A new convenience store has opened up at Park Street in place of the departing Cumberland Farms.

Ayer Convenience will offer much of the same items as Cumberland Farms did, explained owner Danny Patel. The store will also offer lottery tickets.

Selectmen granted a common victualler’s license for Patel at their meeting last week.

Patel said there will be no new changes to the building. It was just painted and cleaned up over the weekend.

Patel also owns Pauline’s Variety on Main Street and the Gulf gas station just a few blocks down from his new store.

He said Ayer provides a steady business. He has owned the Gulf store for seven years and Pauline’s for about 15.

“I like the town of Ayer,” he said. “I know a lot of people and I’ve never had a problem or anything like that.”

The store is filling the hole left by Cumberland Farms, which had been in the small strip mall at 60-70 Park Street for nearly 50 years, according to landowner George Hemenway.
