LEOMINSTER — An Ayer man was arrested on charges he broke into an acquaintance’s home in the 100 block of Pleasant Street at about 9:40 p.m. Monday, police Sgt. Dale Ducharme said.

Zachary S. Riley, 48, is charged with armed burglary and assault and battery, but the charge is expected to be amended in court to aggravated burglary, Ducharme said.

“That’s the proper charge,” Ducharme said. “The individual entered a dwelling and assaulted the resident at the address.”

After an investigation police found Riley at a relative’s house Tuesday at about 1 a.m., Ducharme said.

Riley was scheduled to be arraigned in Leominster District Court Tuesday.
