Bromfield Spring Art Show May 21 through June 4

The Bromfield Art Department’s Spring Art Show will be held May 21 through June 4 in The Bromfield School Courtyard Gallery (lower lobby below the school library).

This year’s art work from grades 6 through 12 will be shown. The exhibition will also showcase a culminating body of fine art work by the Bromfield senior high school students.

Memorial Day breakfast May 26

Harvard’s 18th Annual Memorial Day Pancake Breakfast will take place on May 26, from 8-9:30 a.m. before the parade. Come and join your friends and neighbors at the Harvard UU Fellowship Building for delicious yogurt pancakes, sausages, juice and beverages.

The breakfast is sponsored by the Harvard Unitarian Church members for the benefit of Loaves and Fishes food pantry located at Devens.

Donations: $8 for adults; $4 for children under 12, $20 per family.

All proceeds, plus 100 percent matching funds, will benefit Loaves & Fishes; they received more than $1,000 from last year’s event.

Harvard Firefighters Association 5th Annual Ken Harrod Memorial Bike Ride May 31

The Harvard Firefighters Association will host its 5th Annual Ken Harrod Memorial Bike Ride on Saturday, May 31, in Harvard, presented by the Minuteman Road Club.

You can choose to do either the 11-mile route or 19-mile route or even change the route during the ride. There is NO time limit to finish so you can enjoy the ride at the pace you want.

The start of the ride is at the Bromfield School, 14 Massachusetts Avenue, Harvard. The finish is at Harvard Center where the Ken Harrod Memorial Bike Festival will be in full swing with a number of bike races passing through and food and refreshments for purchase. This will be a big bike festival and we expect over 500 total participants in the race and ride. Both rides start at 9:45 a.m. The cost/donation for the event is $25 per person or $65 per family. Free T-shirts will go to the first 100 registrations.

SonTreasure Island Vacation Bible School (VBS) is being offered July 28 to Aug. 1, at Trinity Church located at 14 Wattaquadock Hill Road in Bolton (just off Route 117). This free program runs from 9 a.m. to noon and is for children age 4 through those entering eighth-grade. Children will have fun with tropical island-themed activities as they participate in music, craft time, recreation, and snack. They will also hear Bible stories about Jesus where they will find out who He is and why they need Him. Harvard’s second annual Bare Hill Triathlon, sponsored by the Harvard Lions Club, will be taking place on Sunday, June 29, beginning at 8 a.m. with a half-mile swim, 10.5-mile bike ride and 3.2-mile run.

The staging and transition areas and finish line will be on the grounds of the Harvard Library.

This sprint triathlon is suitable for seasoned triathletes as well as those with no prior experience looking for a little challenge and fun and is open to both individual entrants as well as relay teams.

Individual registration is $70 and teams $80; since this is an official USA Triathlon-sanctioned event, there is also a $12 USAT fee for all entrants. Participants receive a 2014 Bare Hill Triathlon T-shirt and participation medal and all finishers are eligible for raffle prizes. Medals and prizes will also be awarded to top male and female finishers overall and top finishers in each age category.
