Why do you come to the library? Because I love adventure stories, especially the “Geronimo Stilton” series.
What do you geek? Fashion-designing.
Lawrence Library geeks fashion-designing, too! In fact, we are having a fashion show at the library on Saturday, May 3. That’s the day of the Kentucky Derby, where traditionally spectators wear exceptionally fancy hats. Everyone is welcome to join us that day to make their own fancy hat, which you can then model in our Derby Hat Fashion Show.
Those just getting started in design may enjoy “The Fashion Book: Advice, Activities & Top Tips to Create Your Own Collection” by Marie Vendittelli, while more advanced designers may find inspiration in such books as “Fashion: The Twentieth Century” by Francois Baudot.
We also have many biographies of famous designers, including the “Profiles in Fashion” series, which provides information on designers such as Isaac Mizrahi, Vera Wang, and Jimmy Choo. Aspiring designers may also enjoy the “Allegra Biscotti Collection” series by Olivia Bennett, which follows fictional teen Emma Rose and her outgoing alter-ego, fashion designer Allegra Biscotti. Can Emma Rose juggle school, friends, a secret identity and a feature story in a popular magazine?
If you enjoy creating with yarn, you should stop into the Knit & Crochet Group, which meets on the last Thursday of each month at 6:30 p.m., and work on your projects with like-minded people.
The library can help everyone explore the things they geek. For information, or if you are interested in being the Geek of the Week, stop by the Lawrence Library.
