No. 11 Ayer Shirley 50

The Ayer Shirley Panthers boys’ basketball team made the long trip to Douglas to face the No. 6 seed Douglas Tigers in the opening round of the Division 4 Central Mass. Playoffs. It was a defensive stalemate at the half as the two teams were locked at 19-19. Ayer Shirley led 39-34 at the start of the fourth quarter, but Douglas came roaring back.

The Panthers and Tigers were tied once again with under two minutes left to play. Douglas’s Teddy George flushed a three-pointer with three minutes left to seal Ayer Shirley’s fate. Senior forward Ryan Richard led the Panthers with his team-high 23 points. Douglas was led by Brandon Baril, who had a game-high 27 points and 19 rebounds. Ayer Shirley finishes the season with an overall record of 10-8.
