HARVARD — Everything seemed to be going right for the Bromfield offense against Mid-Wach D foe, Murdock. Sophomore point guard Jake Frackiewicz was six-of-seven from three-point range and paved the way for the Trojans with his 20 points. First-year head coach Ryan Kilian and his Trojans were searching for an elusive first win on their home floor, and on Monday night, they got it. Bromfield downed the Blue Devils for the second time this season, 85-54.
“It was a pretty colorful halftime,” Kilian said. “We have decided to break the season down by halves, and we have had three great halves in a row. Against Oakmont, we had our best game of the year. Defensively, we tried a lot of different schemes on them tonight.”
Bromfield sophomore Mark Schwiegershausen gave his team a spark a minute into the game with a three-point bomb from the top of the key to make it 3-1. The Trojans went on a 12-7 run which forced the Blue Devils to burn their first timeout.
Murdock trimmed the deficit to two, 16-14, late in the first quarter following a three in the corner by Marcus Allen. Bromfield closed the first quarter with a 5-2 flurry highlighted by a pluck and finish from Ryan Kennedy that gave the Trojans a 21-16 lead at the end of one.
Bromfield was outscored in the second quarter, 18-14. However, Frackiewicz started to heat up from three-point land in the second. Frackiewicz scored all 18 of the Trojans second quarter points. Frackiewicz’s smooth-stroke was the difference maker for Bromfield at the half as it led Murdock, 37-34.
The Trojans strongest half started in the third quarter as Schwiegershausen and company continued to pad the lead. Bromfield went on a 19-2 run late in the third quarter to go up, 62-43.
Bromfield went on a 15-7 run in the third quarter with nine points scored by Schwiegerhausen, including a three-pointer from the left elbow. All but one active player logged points in the game. Schiwegershausen (16 points) , Ryan Kennedy (12 points) and Frackiewicz all had double-digit games. Frackiewicz also added nine assists in the win. Sophomore Ben Neville ripped down a game-high nine boards for the Trojans. Bromfield outscored the Blue Devils 21-14 in the fourth quarter. Murdock was led by Hunter Russell, who had a game-high 26 points.
“Frackiewicz hadn’t played in over a week,” Kilian said of his sharp-shooter. “He had the bug, and it has been going around our team. He came out here and he is a good shooter when he gets his knees down. Schwiegershausen is a good shooter. Our young kids are all improving. This is what we want out team to do. I want to play every team in our league better the second time than we did the first time. We can continue to get better. We took a giant step forward against Oakmont, and I like how we responded here in the second half. “
