MARLBOROUGH —- Over the weekend, the Groton-Dunstable girls’ cross country team competed in the Mid-Wach B League meet hosted at Ghilioni Park in Marlborough.

The Lady Crusaders’ harriers gutted out a third overall finish on the 3.1-mile course.

Notable Groton-Dunstable finishers in the race included Emily McAuliffe, with her fourth-place time of 20:57. Right behind McAuliffe was teammate, Bethany Fordham, who placed eighth with a time of 21:53.

Two weeks ago, head coach Colleen Naboicheck’s Lady Crusaders did something they had yet to accomplish. Groton-Dunstable won the town meet over Groton School, Lawrence Academy and Cushing Academy, with McAuliffe carrying the first-place torch with a time of 21:09 on the 3.1-mile course.

“We came in third-place at the league meet,” Naboicheck said. “We tied with Quabbin for second (in the Mid-Wach B). Two of our girls, Emily McAuliffe and Bethany Fordham, took fourth- and eighth-place to be named league All-Stars.”

The Lady Crusaders finished its season with a 6-2 record.

Groton-Dunstable will enjoy a two-week hiatus before it competes in the Division 1 district meet at Gardner Municipal Golf Course on Nov. 9.
