Why do you come to the library? I come to the library because I love books and the people there.

What do you geek? Pom-poms

Lawrence Library geeks pom-poms, too! In fact, we have lots of books about arts and crafts, including “Pom-pom Critters: More than 60 Easy to Make, Fun to Do Pom-pom Projects” by Barry Geller, which has step-by-step instructions on how to make dozens of fuzzy critters.

You can also use pom-poms to decorate your own puppets, as demonstrated in “The Muppets Make Puppets!” by Cheryl Henson and the Muppet Workshop. This one is especially fun, as it shows the ins and outs of making puppets, with pages about various physical attributes, as well as character creation and costume design.

More advanced crafters may also enjoy “Pom-poms!: 25 Awesomely Fluffy Projects” by Sarah Goldschadt, which shows you how to make your own pom-poms with many different materials, from yarn to cupcake wrappers. This book also has lots of photos and decorating tips to display your fluffy creations.

Crafters who prefer a hands-on approach are welcome to join any of our library craft programs, too! Younger crafters will enjoy our annual Halloween Happenings program, which will be at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 26; every year, we set out tables with a few different crafts, and have some messy, creative fun!

Elementary and middle school students may also enjoy our Craft Club, which takes place on the second Tuesday of each month, while our youngest friends can do crafts at the end of each Toddler Time Storytime on Wednesday mornings. There will also be holiday-themed crafts for all ages once we get closer to December.

The library can help everyone explore the things they geek. For information, or if you are interested in being the Geek of the Week, stop by Lawrence Library.
