AYER — A Bronx, N.Y., man was released on $2,000 cash bail after he was arrested by state police during a traffic stop on Interstate 495 in Littleton Saturday, when troopers say they found 1,700 Oxycodone pills in a van he was riding in.

In Ayer District Court Tuesday, a family member posted 31-year-old Jonathon Rivera’s bail after he pleaded not guilty to trafficking a Class A substance and conspiracy to violate drug laws.

David Procopio, a state police spokesman, said Trooper Ryan Dolan was on patrol at about 7:40 a.m. when he stopped a gray Ford van on Interstate 495 north.

Procopio said Dolan noticed a large bag of pills on the floor near Rivera, the front-seat passenger. State police say the bag contained about 1,700 Oxycodone pills. Procopio said Dolan also found $1,438 on Rivera.

Procopio did not identify the van’s driver, or say whether that individual is facing charges.
