SHIRLEY — The annual Senior barbecue subsidized by State Sen. Jamie Eldridge and state Rep. Jen Benson was a huge success.

Over 75 seniors enjoyed chicken, steak, hot dogs, hamburgers and the company of their peers. Both Jen and Jamie were there to talk to the constituents and to discuss local issues. The senior center was buzzing with energy and talk. The chicken was juicy, the steak was tender and the hot dogs went quick.

Many thanks to the barbecue crew that made it all possible. Tom Heraty, Jon Pender and Don Parker for the grill work. Shirley Deyo, Joe Nickerson, Vi Burnley, Marcia Sullivan, Joyce Patton, Donna Brun, Sally Hamel and Fern Gile were responsible for preparing all the other food and for making sure everyone was fed.

Thanks to all, without them, this would not have worked.

A special thanks to Jamie and Jen for their donation. I’m looking forward to next year’s event already.

See you all at the September lunch on the 18th.
