TOWNSEND — On-call firefighter Brian Mayer is on the Montana-Idaho border battling wildfires for the state’s Interagency Wildfire Crew, Fire Chief Donald Klein said Thursday.

“They could be out there up to three weeks,” Klein said.

Mayer left last week. It is the third time he has deployed with the crew this summer. The previous assignments were in Canada.
