GROTON — On Friday, Aug. 30, the Williams Barn Committee will host a celebration honoring the 10-year anniversary of the farmers market at the Williams Barn at 160 Chicopee Row.
The market will be held from 3-7 p.m., with festivities starting at 4 p.m.
Free watermelon, decals for the kids, festive music and highlights from the past decade will be part of the celebration. Families are invited to hike on the trails surrounding the Williams Barn. The barn and restored engine shed will be open. Admission is free.
It was in 2003 that the committee realized the need for Groton to have a farmers market and invited area farmers to participate. Several vendors have been a part of the market for all 10 years, including Kirk Farm, J. Gilson Greenhouses and Chad Spiczka.
Initially, fresh produce was the main focus of the market, but over the years more prepared food has gained popularity. Now, fresh seafood including the wildly popular $10 lobster roll, wine, cheese, bagels, marshmallows and pasta are offered along with everyone’s favorite, corn, tomatoes and juicy summer fruits.
The market is sponsored by the Williams Barn Committee with support from Groton Trust Funds.
