Comedy tent lineup announced
DEVENS — The NINES, New England’s boutique music and arts festival coming Saturday, Aug. 10, to Willard Field in Devens, has added rising hip-hop artist K. Flay and Boston’s own utterly unique musical/theatrical ensemble Walter Sickert & the Army of Broken Toys. They join the diverse lineup that includes Dr. Dog, Matt Pond, Explosions in the Sky, Delta Spirit, Walk Off The Earth, Shuggie Otis and Kid Koala.
The all-ages festival, which takes place just 35 miles west of Boston, will feature music performances on two stages with no overlapping sets while the region’s best emerging to established comedians will take up residence under the “Stitch” comedy tent curated by Harvard Square’s The Comedy Studio and hosted by the Comedy Studio’s Rick Jenkins. Four shows will feature sets by Erin Judge, Joe List, Mehran Khaghani, Ken Reid, Bethany Van Delft and Jenny Zigrino.
In addition, The NINES will feature art installations, exhibits and interactive art projects curated by art director and RISD alum Christopher Cyr and “art with a re-purpose” visual design visionaries FireSeed Arts of Wayland.
Quality crafts, tasty food and beverages and 21-plus beer gardens offering a selection of beer and wine will be offered.
The NINES is conveniently accessed directly off of Route 2, a short drive from the greater Boston area, Worcester, Lowell and southern New Hampshire. Gates will open at noon with entertainment starting at 1 p.m.
“Our mission is to bring attention to the breadth of artistic talent in our region, bring top-tier bands to our area and build on this year after year,” says Monica Hinojos, executive director of Ayer-based 3Rivers Arts, co-producer of the NINES.
“We want to introduce audiences to Central Massachusetts as a hub of artistic talent, and hopefully, a regular summer tour stop for their favorite bands. Our vision is for a happy side-effect of The Nines to be a cultural and economic boost for the area as well.”
