ACTON — All month, Not Your Average Joe’s restaurant has been holding its monthly Not Your Average Cause fundraiser for Harvard resident, Dylan Connelly, a 30-year-old father of three who was recently diagnosed with an aggressive and inoperable form of brain cancer.

Fifteen percent of the cost of every meal served is being donated to Team Braveheart, the fundraising team dedicated to helping the Connelly family pay medical expenses not covered by insurance. Funds raised will also be used to assist Connelly’s family.

“Tuesdays in June have been Dylan’s day,” said Aaron Lyon, assistant general manager for the restaurant chain. “For the past two weeks, we’ve had a really good turnout.”

Lyon said area residents say they appreciate having a way to support the young family.

“People eat out two or three times a week anyway. They can go to Joe’s and help somebody they know,” the restaurateur said.

It’s not just the Connellys’ friends and neighbors who feel good about helping, either.

“I think it’s great that we’re reaching out to our community,” Lyon said. “Some nights, you see families here and they’re all wearing the same T-shirt. Personally, my heart goes out to them because I’ve had family members with cancer, and I think it’s awesome that people are helping.”

Tuesday, June 25, is the last day to contribute to Team Braveheart by dining out at Not Your Average Joe’s.
