TOWNSEND — A car accident on Route 119 left the road closed for several hours Monday afternoon.

The accident occurred when a westbound vehicle struck the car in front of it, which had paused to turn from Route 119 onto Scott Road. The vehicle that struck the turning car was then diverted into traffic, where it struck another vehicle going eastbound.

The driver of the car that crashed into the turning car sustained minor injuries and was transported by EMS. No other injuries were reported.

“The accident itself was relatively minor, but caused some serious property damage,” said Police Lt. David Profit. “We had to detour traffic for several hours, which was a challenge.”

The crash caused damage to two utility poles and a stop sign. All repairs were made while the road was closed Monday afternoon.
