Two Lawrence Academy alumni, Rachel Manly, ’05, and Katherine Moore, ’06, return to Groton to display their artwork in the school’s Conant Gallery, with an opening reception on Friday, May 10, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.

Manly earned her B.F.A. at the Maine College of Art, where her primary focus was printmaking, with emphasis on textile design. After working at various studios and clothing companies in Portland, Maine, for seven years, she has recently returned to her hometown of Harvard, Mass., where she is reviving an after-school art program called “Art and Cloth,” and where she serves as the director of a newly established cultural arts center, the Center on the Common.

Moore expresses herself through the merging of expressionism and humanism in a style called visual emotionism. Her work expresses raw human emotion through a combination of color, line, and poetry in a variety of mediums, including graphite drawings, oil and acrylic paintings on both canvas and found wood, mixed media, and collage work, as well as her own distinctive signature technique–hand-stitched water color paintings. Moore, who grew up in Groton, is currently the Converse feature.

The May 10 opening will feature live music and refreshments and will allow the public an opportunity to speak with the artists. The display will remain until June 14. Gallery hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.
