TOWNSEND — The Townsend Minuteman Company will join the Townsend Rod and Gun Club for a muster on Sunday, April 21, from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m.
Rod and Gun Club members meet every third Sunday of the month for target shooting with their black powder muskets and rifles. On the weekend of April 20 and 21, club members “rendezvous” and camp out. The black powder shooting begins Sunday at 9 a.m.
The Minutemen will muster and drill at noon. There will be an exercise in firing a flintlock musket and discussion about the clothing and equipment needed to outfit as a Minuteman. The public is welcome to attend the event, and refreshments will be available.
On April 19, 1775, 73 men from Townsend answered the Lexington and Concord alarm. Many also fought at Bunker Hill and at various other times during the Revolutionary War. The Townsend Minuteman Company was reorganized in 2006 to commemorate the town’s 275th anniversary in 2007. Anyone with an interest in history is encouraged to attend.
