TOWNSEND — The Townsend Historical Society will hold its annual potluck luncheon on April 21, at 2 p.m. at the Congregational Church’s Fellowship Hall at 3 Brookline St.
Following the luncheon, the Society will celebrate Ed and Mary West and their continuing contributions to the Society over more than 40 years.
As a new member of the board of directors in 1970, Ed was handed the gavel and the presidency. Within his first three years as president, he established the Society as a nonprofit, tax-exempt organization, opened membership up to the general public, and negotiated the purchase of the historic Reed Homestead as the headquarters for the Society.
Ed and Mary started the successful annual Arts and Crafts Fair as a fundraiser, organizing and running it until 1981. They documented changes to the town that would become local history, and collected residents’ memories of the town from years ago. They have been an integral part of the Society since they first became involved. They have generously shared their talents, time, effort, expertise, and devotion to the town’s history and the organization that preserves it.
Everyone is welcome to attend, just bring a special dish to share. An RSVP by April 16 would be appreciated.
