We have an important upcoming election that will help determine the future of Harvard. There is a clear and obvious choice for selectman, Leo Blair. The town is truly fortunate to have a person of Leo’s accomplishment who is willing to serve.
Leo has a 40-year record as an entrepreneur, founding several highly successful companies from banking to technology. For example, he was one of the founding partners of Boston Private Bank.
While living in Harvard, he has provided numerous contributions in public office as well as a private citizen. His previous term as selectman was characterized by his strong leadership style resulting in a number of accomplishments, including balancing the budget, initiating the town center sewer project, and helping us get through the ice storm of 2009. Recently, his service on the Municipal Affordable Housing Trust is giving us more potential affordable-housing units in process than at any time in my memory. In a related effort, several years ago, as a private citizen, he took an option on a large tract of land near the Ayer border that had potential as an affordable-housing rental complex. He offered the option to the town as an alternative project for the MAHT.
Leo’s background and success in business stand in stark contrast to his competitor. I hope that you will join me in voting for Leo Blair for selectman.
