HARVARD — Harvard Woman’s Club member, Eleanor Willard Merrifield, a member of the prominent Willard family of Still River and Harvard, was a talented artist and photographer. Her legacy to the town of Harvard is a series of hand-colored pictures which document the rapidly disappearing Shaker community, including an understanding of the landmarks that they created.
Tammy Alfano, Harvard resident, researcher, and Harvard Historical Society Board Member, will speak Feb. 4 about her efforts to spearhead an effort to publish the photos as part of a book that highlight Eleanor’s life, her legacy and the current state of those Shaker places today.
The meeting will be held at Holy Trinity Parish (formerly St. Theresa’s), 15 Still River Road, at 12:15 p.m. following lunch at 11:30 a.m. All are welcome. Contact Sue Guswa at 978-456-8580 for membership information.
