We have a number of new programs. For those who made “getting in shape” a goal for the new year, we have Senior Fitness. A class designed for seniors that includes weight training and Pilates and is geared towards each individual’s needs. The classes will be held on Tuesdays at 6 p.m., or Wednesdays at 8:30 a.m. Also new at the center, a test of your mind. Wii Jeopardy is a chance to have some fun, exercise your mind and experience some painless competition. Wii Jeopardy will be held on Wednesday afternoons from1:30 to 2:30 p.m.. Sign-up now.
Due to its popularity, we have expanded Bingo from once a month to three times/month. In addition to having Bingo after the monthly lunch, we will now also be playing on the second and fourth Thursday of each month at 2 p.m. If you are the creative type, we have resumed the painting classes with a lot of flexibility for you. You can paint in Oil or Water, you can have instruction or just use the time to paint on your own. Its your call. Willa Desousa, a former high school art teacher will work with you at what ever level of skill you have and help you attain a higher level of artistic capability.
As always, we have Wii bowling is on Monday’s from 1-4 p.m and Thursday’s from 10 am. to noon. Card time is hot. Every Monday from 1-4 p.m. stop by and play Rummy, Canasta or Cribbage with friends or make new friends. There is Bridge every Tuesday from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Forgot how to bid? No problem, stop by, watch, play, learn and enjoy. We also have Mexican Train Dominos on Tuesday at 10 a.m.
Need a little relaxation time? Well we have a couple of good answers. On Mondays from 11:30 a.m. -12:30 p.m. we have Qigong. It is a relaxing, simple form of Tai Chi which helps your mind, body and spirit to relax and feel free. On Thursdays from 9-10 a.m., we have Chair Yoga. Have trouble getting up off the mat, no problem. We use chairs not mats. It’s relaxing and helps with your flexibility. Stop by and try it for free.
The Senior Lunch is on Wednesday, Jan 16. It will be made-from-scratch and delicious. It starts at 11:30 a.m.. Afterwards, enjoy some relaxing Bingo. Last month we had more than 20 players enjoy themselves. The Senior Breakfast is on Monday Jan 28. It is $2 and worth $10. Stop by enjoy the food and the warm company.
We have a senior information session on Monday Jan 14. A local financial adviser will stop by and talk about planning for the future. Young seniors may want to know about planning for retirement, those already retired may be interested in how to survive in this strange economy. There is something for everyone. See you at 10 a.m.
We also have two Senior Safety Programs. One is the annual “Sand4Seniors” we have been doing for many years. Any senior who wants sand, give us a call at 978-425-1390. Thanks to the Boy Scouts and the DPW, we can have it delivered to your door to help you in the ice and snow. We also have “Dectectors4Seniors”. Thanks to the generosity of Nashoba HomeCare, Moore’s Lumber, The Deven’s Grill and Phoenix Park, we have a limited number of Carbon Monoxide Detectors and smoke detectors available for seniors who need them. IF YOU DON”T HAVE A C.O. or Smoke detector, call us. DO NOT TAKE THE RISK of going without for another winter.
The Pizza and Movie for Feb will be on the 6th. The Movie is We Bought a Zoo is a 2011 Comedy-drama/family film based on the 2008 memoir of the same name by Benjamin Mee. The film is directed by Cameron Crowe, and stars Matt Damon as the lead character. It tells the story of Mee and his family who just moved into a dilapidated zoo and took on the challenge of preparing the zoo for its reopening to the public. Come, Laugh and enjoy the Pizza.
