AYER — Nashoba Valley Medical Center, a Steward Health Care hospital, was honored with an “A” Hospital Safety Score by the Leapfrog Group, an independent national nonprofit run by employers and other large purchasers of health benefits.

The A score was awarded in the latest update to the Hospital Safety ScoreSM, the A, B, C, D or F scores assigned to U.S. hospitals based on preventable medical errors, injuries accidents, and infections. The Hospital Safety Score was compiled under the guidance of the nation’s leading experts on patient safety and is designed to give the public information they can use to protect themselves and their families.

“Nashoba Valley Medical Center is committed to patient safety and this award is a testament to the outstanding care we provide,” said Steve Roach, president of Nashoba Valley Medical Center. “We have an outstanding team of physicians, medical professionals and employees, all of whom are extremely dedicated to delivering high quality care to our patients. To be recognized by the Leapfrog Group, a nationally recognized panel of quality experts, is something that we are very proud of achieving.”

“Hospitals like this that earn an A have demonstrated their commitment to their patients and their community,” said Leah Binder, president and CEO of the Leapfrog Group. “I congratulate Nashoba Valley Medical Center for its safety excellence, and look forward to the day when all hospitals will match this standard.”

Nashoba Valley Medical Center scored a “best performance” rating in many categories, including nursing workforce, leadership structures and systems, and identification and mitigation of risks and hazards.
