Three local organizations are joining forces to provide first aid kits and small toiletry items to area homeless individuals. Their goal is to assemble 250 kits that will be distributed to those in need just before the Christmas season.
The first aid kits will be contained in unused eye glass cases collected by the Ayer-Shirley and other area Lions Clubs. The first aid kits will be distributed by Fitchburg-based ACTION Health Services at their upcoming Homeless Persons Memorial Day commemoration on December 21 and during routine service activities. ACTION Health Services, which stands for Accessible Comprehensive Treatment In Our Neighborhoods, is a healthcare for the homeless and public housing primary care health center operated by Community Health Connections, Inc.
The Devens Eco-Efficiency Center provides a variety of educational and technical services that help local businesses and organizations incorporate sustainability initiatives that have fiscal, social and environmental benefits into their operational practices. The Center is reaching out to establishments to help collect first aid and personal care items that will donated to this cause.
The groups welcome donations by Dec. 14 of products that will help make this initiative a success. Items of particular interest for this project include: bandages, individually wrapped gauze pads, antibiotic ointment packets and wipes, aspirin packets, trial-size hand sanitizer, handi-wipes, mini scissors, tweezers and sewing kits.
