PEPPERELL — At their Nov. 26 meeting at the Pepperell VFW, the newly founded Global War on Terrorism Monument Committee appointed officers and created subcommittees to get their project underway.

The group’s purpose is described in their tentative mission statement: “GWOT (Global War on Terrorism) is a group of Pepperell-area veterans who plan to organize and construct a public monument to honor veterans who have served post 9/11 (and have received a campaign medal), by fundraising.”

Bobby Connolly will serve as chairman, Robert Leddy as vice-chairman, Matt Boisvert as treasurer and Kevin Hayes as clerk. Mike Carr will serve on the surveying subcommittee, Adam Taylor on the design subcommittee and Mike Levesque on the fundraising subcommittee.

The goals for the committee’s next meeting are to finalize a mission statement, discuss site surveys, ideas for fundraising, and the pros and cons of being a town committee versus a nonprofit organization. They also plan to set a time and location for regular meetings.

The next meeting will take place at the Pepperell VFW on Dec. 8 at 9 a.m., during the monthly Veterans’ Breakfast.
