AYER — It didn’t start off as an arrest on Saturday, but it soon escalated into formal charges when an Ayer man kicked a police officer — twice.

According to Ayer Police, officers responded to a Shirley Street home at 2:30 a.m. on Saturday upon report of a domestic disturbance. Forty-three-year-old Ariel LeBron was removed from the home and placed into noncriminal detention at the Ayer Police Department.

While in the booking room, LeBron reportedly intentionally kicked Shirley Officer Jason Striniste in the leg. Later, as LeBron was being escorted to a cell, LeBron is alleged to have again intentionally kicked Striniste in the leg.

LeBron was charged with two separate counts each of assault and battery on a police officer and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon — his shod foot.
