TOWNSEND — John McEndarfer, a convicted Level 2 sex offender from Townsend who faced charges that he traveled to Indiana to have sex with an underage girl, pleaded guilty to child-solicitation charges last week and is awaiting sentence in an Indiana prison.
In addition to the child-solicitation charge, McEndarfer also pleaded guilty to a single charge of being a repeat offender, stemming from a 1989 conviction in Clinton (Mass.) District Court.
According to court documents, McEndarfer traveled to Bloomington, Ind., in March and bought a 15-year-old girl an Apple iPhone, an iTunes gift card, condoms, a pregnancy test, clothes and jewelry.
The two had previously been exchanging sexually charged emails and text messages before the meeting, according to authorities.
When the minor’s mother asked how she got the gifts, the incident was reported, and a warrant for McEndarfer was issued.
He received probation in the 1989 case, in which he molested a 15-year-old Leominster girl. The two were in a traveling drum group together, and while at a competition in Foxboro, the girl got sick and McEndarfer agreed to bring her home.
Leominster police Lt. Michael Goldman is in charge of sexual-assault cases for the Leominster Police Department and was a member of the force in 1989. He previously said McEndarfer was sentenced to probation until 1991, according to the department’s records, and it appears the probation was extended for an undetermined amount of time.
In December 1992, McEndarfer violated his probation for operating after a suspended license and was sentenced to two years in jail.
McEndarfer is reportedly facing a maximum sentence of 4 1/2 years in prison, but it’s yet to be determined if he will get credit for time served or good behavior. He has been incarcerated since he was arrested over the summer.
Prosecutor Rebecca Veidlinger and David Schalk, McEndarfer’s defense attorney, did not return multiple messages seeking comment.
