TOWNSEND — NMRSD Scholarship Foundation announces that the Community Foundation of North Central Massachusetts will manage the investment of its 17 memorial scholarship funds.

“We are thrilled to be able to partner with the Community Foundation,” said Martha Morgan, president of the NMRS Scholarship Foundation, which awards college scholarships to seniors from North Middlesex Regional High School.

Founded in 1964, the nonprofit scholarship foundation includes memorial scholarship funds that have been established over the years. The funds are invested for long-term growth, which provides annual income for scholarships.

In addition to the memorial funds, NMRS raises donations from local businesses, corporations, community groups, memorial gifts and an annual scholarship drive held in April.

“One of the reasons we partnered with the Foundation is the additional resources they bring to the relationship. We now can provide to the community the ability to make online donations through the Community Foundation’s website,” said Morgan.

This past year, the volunteer committee made 96 awards, totaling $57,550, according to Morgan.

“We look forward to working with the NMRS Scholarship Foundation; the work they are doing makes college a little more affordable for students from Ashby, Townsend and Pepperell,” said Phil Grzewinski, president of the Community Foundation of North Central Massachusetts.
