Christmas Fair nears
Plan ahead and save the date of Saturday, Nov. 17, for the Christmas Fair at the United Church of Shirley.
This annual event will include a crafts table, baked goods and raffle baskets on the main floor. In the basement will be bargain items including housewares, toys, and clothes. The snack bar will have something for both breakfast and lunch.
The fair will open at 9 a.m. and close at 2 p.m. The United Church is located at the corner of Lancaster and Harvard Roads in Shirley Village and all are welcome.

Halloween party and ghost walk
A Family Halloween Party and Ghost Walk at The Center Town Hall will be held Saturday, Oct. 27, from 6-10 p.m.
Boogie to the sounds of DJ Bob Wright from the Main Street Café in Groton and get your spook on with our historical ghost walk on the Common each half hour between 6 and 9:30 p.m.
Pizza, snacks, cupcakes and a cash bar (beer, wine and soft drinks) by the Bull Run will be available. Adults $5, children under 12, $3.
We will have a collection box for Loaves & Fishes in the front hall so please bring a food donation if you can.
All proceeds benefit the upkeep and utilities of Center Town Hall and the Shirley Meeting House.

Halloween festivities Oct. 31
Trick-or-treating: 6-8 p.m.
Halloween Parade and Costume Contest sponsored by the Shirley American Legion, 6 p.m.
Children and parents gather for the Costume Parade in front of St. Anthony’s Church on Phoenix Street near the train station and Whiteley Park at 6 p.m.
The Parade will be supervised and escorted by the Shirley American Legion, the Shirley Police Department, Shirley Fire Department and a motorcycle guardian team.
The parade will proceed down Front Street to the War Memorial Building where children may pick their bags of candy and leave the building to continue trick-or-treating in the local neighborhoods.

Children and parents are also welcome to remain at the War Memorial Building for the costume contest. Age groups are 0-4, 5-8, and 9-12 years of age. There will be three small cash prizes awarded in each age group and possibly, fleeting pictorial fame in the local newspaper.
Household hazardous waste collection
Harvard residents may bring hazardous materials for disposal to the Devens Regional Household Hazardous Products Collection Center at 9 Cook St. (rear) on the first Wednesday and following Saturday of each month (Nov. 7 and 10), from 9 a.m. to noon, except for holidays and weather-permitting.
The cost for residents is $20 for up to five gallons or five pounds of material.
Businesses must pre-register.
