Regional Senior Scrabble Tournament enters the final stages

PUBLISHED: | UPDATED:

TOWNSEND — On Oct. 18, the top two senior Scrabble players in Shirley traveled to Townsend to take on the North Middlesex area COA’s top two players. The results are an All-Shirley finals for the title of “Best senior Scrabble player in Nashoba region.”

Kate White defeated Susan Suokko, of Ashby, who was the North Middlesex champion by winning both matches. In the other match, Jim Krycka came from way behind (lost the first match by 58 points) to beat Helmi Linnus (also from Ashby) by nine points. A very close match

The finals were to be played Oct. 25 in Shirley with the winner being declared best senior Scrabble player in Nashoba region.

This will be a re-match of the finals here in Shirley when James won the title of “Best senior Scrabble player in Shirley.” Will he get both titles or will Kate top him this week?

This year’s guest judges include Don Parker and Carl Mock, superintendent of the Ayer-Shirley Regional school district. Stop by and watch. We have others playing as well just to keep their minds active while they watch the other matches. This is fun, try it out.
