AYER — Hairstylist Donna Woodward has returned to Main Street. Earlier this month, Woodward returned to the same storefront she had a decade ago at 14 Main St. and has been accepting customers at her business, Woody’s Barbershop.
Now Donna is cutting hair aside her son, Donny Woodward. “Keeping it in the family,” said Donny while cutting a customer’s hair on Tuesday morning.
Woodward, who lives in Shirley, has been cutting hair for 17 years. A decade ago, she operated Woodward’s Family Cuts in the same location. Woodward said at that time there were three barbershops on Main Street.
Recently, Woodward has worked at different Acton hair salons. But Woodward says she’s excited to be back on Main Street in Ayer.
Woodward said as she was installing the barber pole in front of the store, she was approached by a man who wanted his hair cut. She stopped to cut the man’s hair. “We’re that kind of shop.”
Woodward says she keeps running into clientele from her prior run in Ayer. “I saw five of my customers right away,” said Woodward. “People have been coming in and saying hi.”
Among other salons where Woodward has worked is Kid-Klips in Acton. Woodward has a full train table set up in the shop to distract fussy children while they receive their first haircuts. “I had to cut one boy’s hair at the train table the other day,” said Woodward. “That worked.”
The Woodwards are accepting men, women and children for haircuts. Pricing is $14 for a regular cut, $13 for senior citizens and $12 for active military. “I owe them,” said Woodward. “They’ve done so much for us.”
Woody’s Barbershop, 978-772-7777, is open Mondays from 7:30 a.m. to 7 p.m., Tuesday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Saturdays from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.
