September is national honey month and time for apple picking. Apples contain no fat, sodium or cholesterol plus are an excellent source of dietary fiber and local honey is a great benefit to your health. Here’s a lighter healthier (no sugar or butter) version of crisp to celebrate the natural sweetness of honey and apples.

Individual Honey Apple Crisps, 4 servings

Filling:

3 medium-size apples such as Gala or Braeburn; peel, core and slice to 1/4″

1 tbsp lemon juice

1/4 cup local honey

1/4 tsp cinnamon

1/4 cup organic raisins, optional

Topping:

1/4 cup flour

1/4 cup oats

1 tsp local honey

pinch of sea salt

3 tbsp canola oil

Preheat oven to 350. Combine apples, lemon juice, honey, cinnamon and raisins in a medium bowl and divide filling between four ramekins. Then, combine flour, oats, honey, salt and drizzle with oil until moist. Spread evenly over the apples in each ramekin. Place ramekins on a baking sheet and bake for 40 minutes or until apples are tender and topping is golden. Cool and serve with a dollap of whip cream.
