The Shirley Center Farmers Market is holding a Kid’s Art Contest. The contest is open to all children (no matter what school) in grades 1 through 5. There is no fee to enter and the deadline for submissions is Monday, Oct. 1. Posters can be dropped off that evening between 6 and 7 p.m. at Town Hall or can be placed in the drop box inside the front entrance of Lura A. White any time before Oct. 1. Be sure to include child’s name, age and phone number on the reverse of the design.

The Shirley Center Farmers Market is looking for the best farm, garden, fruit, vegetable, plant, flower (or any combination) design for its posters next year. All artwork will be displayed on The Common at the farmers market on Thursday, Oct. 4. The designs will be judged by a local panel and the winner will be announced at 6 p.m. Along with having his or her design featured on next year’s poster, the winner will also receive a farmers market gift bag, which will include a $25 gift certificate from The Bull Run Restaurant.

The Shirley Center Farmers Market has been open since July 12 and will run through Oct. 11. The weather has been terrific and the vendors have been coming with lots of wonderful products. The farmers market is held on Shirley’s historic Common every Thursday from 3 p.m. until dusk. Live entertainment is scheduled every week, so come shop, eat, socialize and relax during these beautiful autumn New England days.
