The Groton Dunstable Education Foundation (GDEF) is planning another busy year of events and fundraising to support enrichment grants to our district schools.
On Sunday, Oct. 14, GDEF hosts its third annual Octoberfest 5K Road Race, Walk and Kids Run, at Larter Memorial Field, Groton Street, Dunstable. The 5K road race and walk takes place on a certified closed course and the kids run features races for Grades K through 6 on the Larter track. The walk begins at 8:30 a.m., followed by the 5K run at 9 a.m. and kids races by grade level beginning at 10:30 a.m. Prizes will be awarded to the top runners in each age category of the 5K, with medals and ribbons for the kids.
Again this year, Groton’s Main Street Café is generously providing food for purchase and live music, Cheryl Steinhoff Photography will offer free downloads of event photos to participants and Goss Farm in Dunstable is providing pumpkins for painting and “cow train” rides for the kids. Register by Sept. 24 to receive a registration discount and a guaranteed T-shirt. For information and to register online or by mail, visit www.gdefinc.org.
In announcing the event sponsors, race director Sarah Eisenklam said, “GDEF is extremely grateful to area businesses for stepping up to support public education in these tough financial times. Last year’s event raised over $10,000 for grants. Based on the generous donations we’ve received from sponsors, we’re well on our way to topping that. We’re hoping lots of community members will turn out to run or walk to benefit our schools.”
