SHIRLEY — While it may be hot outside, it’s cool at the Senior Center, which has air conditioning. So if you want to cool off for a few hours, stop by and soak up the cool and check out some of the activities.

While Wii bowling will be winding down for the summer, card time is hot. Every Monday from 1 to 4 p.m., stop by and play rummy, canasta or cribbage. And you can play bridge every Tuesday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Watch, play, learn and enjoy.

Need a little relaxation time? Qigong, offered every monday from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., is a relaxing, simple form of tai chi that helps your mind, body and spirit to relax and feel free. Chair yoga — no mats — offered Thursdays from 9 to 10 a.m. helps with flexibility. Stop by and try it for free.

The senior lunch at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 15, is a chicken barbecue. The seniors are cooking this month. Afterward, enjoy some relaxing bingo.

The famous senior breakfast will be held at 8:15 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 27, for just $2.

Special this month, in anticipation of the big Scrabble tournament in September, we have Scrabble time. Stop by and play Scrabble on Wednesday, Aug. 22 and 29, from 10 a.m. to noon. Then on Thursday, Aug. 30, there will be a Scrabble warm-up. Anyone who shows up will be paired randomly with someone you usually don’t play against so you get the feel of competition. Remember, it’s all for fun.
