LEOMINSTER — A Townsend resident was arraigned Monday on charges of larceny over $250 by a single scheme and possession of a Class A drug with intent to distribute.

Police officers responded to Macy’s at the Mall at Whitney Field on Saturday for a report of an employee stealing cash from the registers. On arrival, officers met with loss-prevention employees and were told that Heather Aho, 26, of 20 Clement Road, admitted stealing $290 from the store.

As part of company procedure, employees agree to have their personal belongings searched at any time, and $40 was found in her wallet. She claimed the rest of the money in her wallet was from her paycheck.

In Aho’s wallet, officers found a plastic bag with syringes, a lighter, a spoon and several bags of what appeared to be heroin.

Aho claimed the drugs belonged to someone else, and she was just holding them temporarily. As Aho was transported to the Leominster Police Station, she changed her story multiple times on whose drugs they were, according to police.

She was placed on suspension from her job at Macy’s pending the completion of the investigation. She was released on her personal recognizance and is due back in court Sept. 10.
