Harvard Historical Society is co-sponsor of Shaker House Tour

PUBLISHED: | UPDATED:

The captions under the excellent Shaker photos in your Aug. 3 edition of the Harvard Hillside need some correction and clarification.

Fruitlands Museum and the Harvard Historical Society, not the Harvard Historical Commission, are co-sponsoring the Shaker House Tour. The commission receives money from taxpayers to fund its operations, but the society is a private nonprofit and relies on donations and receipts from fundraisers.

The Shaker House Tour Sept. 15 is the major fundraiser for the Society this year. The Shaker buildings, which are on Shaker Road and South Shaker Road, not just South Shaker Road as stated, will be open to a limited number of ticket holders, who should know that money raised will be going to the society, not the commission, and will be tax-deductible.
