TOWNSEND — The Townsend Military band will continue to play concerts on the Townsend Common every Thursday evening though Aug. 23, weather permitting, with the exception of July 26.

The Townsend VFW Post #6538 Ladies Auxiliary and the Townsend Business Association will be co-hosting a lawn party to be held in conjunction with the band’s Aug. 2 performance. Members of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary will be offering fried dough, cold soda and bottled water and a wide variety of homemade baked goods for sale. The smell of peppers and onions will fill the air as Townsend Business Association members grill hot dogs, hamburgers and sausages to sell to hungry concertgoers.

There will be numerous activities for children at the lawn party including basketball and baseball throws as well as an opportunity for youngsters to do sand art and spin art crafts. Balloons will be on sale. An inflatable moon walk and jousting court will be set up, too.

Department of Massachusetts Ladies Auxiliary VFW cancer pins will be offered for sale at the Aug. 2 concert. Proceeds from their sale benefit cancer research centers and provide for monetary grants to cancer-stricken Auxiliary members. Townsend bandstand tiles will also be available for purchase.

Concertgoers of all ages will have an opportunity to win a patriotic money hat and stuffed animals during the evening.

The band goes on at 7:30 p.m., selections from Grainger, Bernstien, Gomez, Rossini and more will be performed. The Star Spangled Banner will conclude the evening at 9:30 p.m.
