PEPPERELL — Fourth of July Committee President Carol Gates had to call up this year’s winner of the grand marshal voting to be sure she was actually going to march.

Gates was afraid she wouldn’t leave her business.

Don’t worry, Main Street’s dedicated pharmaceutical figurehead, Tracey Ezzio, says she will be on time, ready to lead the way for one of the street’s biggest events: the Fourth of July Parade. This Saturday, she will march in the parade as grand marshal after voting closed in mid-June.

“I want to say I am very deeply touched by the caring in the town of Pepperell,” Ezzio said. “I am very touched and appreciate the honor.”

Over several months, the Pepperell Fourth of July Committee polled community members far and wide for who should be the grand marshal. As it’s official dignitary, Ezzio will lead one of the biggest parades to celebrate Independence Day in the area.

According to Ezzio, she was instructed to be at the Town Hall at noon on Saturday, July 7. She said Gates wanted to make sure “no one had to pull her out of the pharmacy.”

The Pepperell Family Pharmacy is in its fifth year of business. Located at 74 Main St., it is often hard to pull Tracey or other pharmacists there aside because of how much they work, advising people one-on-one or adding a personal touch to regular medication fill-ups, Gates says, and this is the reason she was nominated.

“When the Pepperell Fourth of July Committee nominates a person for grand marshal, we do so because of their time, dedication, and commitment to the community,” said Pepperell Fourth of July President Carol Gates. “Tracey is a great asset to our town, her dedication to her customers and all residents is amazing, she has given above and beyond for the town.”

More than 4,000 people came out to vote for the candidates. Gates said the turnout was amazing and she was pleased with the amount of participation.
