AYER — And the winners are … Everyone who participates in Ayer’s Fourth of July celebration. Remember, the town’s grand parade steps off tomorrow, Saturday, July 7 at 2 p.m. This year’s grand marshal is Peter Johnston.

A series of raffles and fundraising events are conducted annually to help pay for the parade, all the field events that follow the parade throughout the afternoon at Pirone Park and the fireworks that start after the 8:23 p.m.

Stop by the town’s 4th of July Committee table at Pirone Park to look over the nine different gift baskets and buy last minute tickets for your chance to win. Tickets are $1 each, 6 for $5, and 12 for $10.

Just in – three baskets donated from Catania Spagna, said selectmen secretary Janet Lewis. The company’s sales manager, Kevin Cyr, made it happen. “Each year, his baskets get bigger and bigger, full of their famous oils and Italian products.”

Also, Cains is a basket donor. “Cains’ basket, as always, is full of their wonderful products through from dressings to a beautiful apron and cooler bag. Thank you, Cains!”

Another newly created basket, called Christmas in July, was donated by the 4th of July Committee itself and was decorated and designed by Marion Smith for the Committee.

“Many more baskets will be on the table just as wonderful as these three!” said Lewis. “All it takes is a ticket to bring one home.”

Economic Development Director David Maher has worked to decorate Main Street “from flowers to flags,” said Lewis. Assistant Treasurer Melisa Doig and former Selectwoman Carolyn McCreary will be batonist in the parade this year, both former record breakers with the baton!”

Your 4th is not complete until you visit downtown Ayer on Saturday, July 7. Parade at 2, field events follow at Pirone Park (turning off East Main Street and traveling to the end of School Street). Fireworks after dusk. See you there!
