Awesome! We had a very, very good night on Friday. Everyone had a blast at Billiard’s Café on Main Street in Ayer during our monthly open mic night. This month, however, the hat was passed to benefit the 10 people who lost their homes in the June 18, five-alarm fire a few doors down at 63 Main St.

A lot of people showed up. To all of you, I say thank you for showing love and support for the fire victims, many of whom were on hand to enjoy the music and sense of community that Ayer dished out that night.

I’ve worked to serve as a connection between the community and the displaced tenants, but there have been some awesome Ayer angles that’ve come to the aid of these fellow Ayer citizens.

Mary Spinner has been so outrageously generous, it’s unbelievable. Jim Fay has really gone above and beyond. Ron Morrison from Morrison ERA Key Realty is helping locate homes for these four households. Calvin Moore and Phil Berry of Worthendale Realty have provided venues for our fundraising events and more.

On Friday night, a lot of people brought out a lot of friends. Thank you for the love and support you’ve shown to our neighbors.

Donations to the 63 Main St. Fire Relief Fund may still be made to the Ayer Business Alliance, c/o Fresh Ayer Sports, 3 Park St., Ayer, MA 01432. My goal remains raising enough money to help these families cover first and last month’s rent and security deposits, along with other expenses related to losing their Ayer homes.
